About
Petoskey Dunes Modern Campground is one of two campgrounds at Petoskey State Park, situated along Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan. The campground features 78 modern sites well suited to tent campers, van campers, and those with compact RVs, offering a more intimate camping experience compared to its larger sister campground. Many sites are shaded by mature cedar trees, creating a peaceful wooded atmosphere. The campground provides 20- and 30-amp electrical service at each site, modern restrooms with showers, and vault toilets. A small trail winds through the dunes connecting campers to the park's day-use area, where a mile of sandy Lake Michigan shoreline awaits. The beach is famous as a prime location for finding Petoskey stones, Michigan's state stone. The park also features hiking trails including the Old Baldy Trail, which leads to panoramic views from the summit of Old Baldy Dune, and the Portage Trail through wooded dune habitat. Nearby, the 26-mile paved Little Traverse Wheelway passes the park entrance, offering excellent biking between Charlevoix and Harbor Springs. The park is located within the ancestral homelands of the Waganakising Odawa. Just 3 miles from the town of Petoskey and 6 miles from Harbor Springs, campers have easy access to shopping, dining, and harbor attractions.
Directions
