Nestled in a quiet, rustic setting adjacent to the Carp Wild and Scenic River, Carp River Campground is an ideal destination for campers seeking a traditional back-to-basics experience in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The campground features 20 wooded campsites, each equipped with a table and fire ring, providing a comfortable base for exploring the surrounding Hiawatha National Forest. The Carp River is a highlight of the campground, offering excellent fishing opportunities for brook, brown, and rainbow trout. Access to the river is made easy with constructed stair sets along the riverbank. Canoeing and kayaking are popular activities on the scenic river, while the surrounding forest provides opportunities for hiking and wildlife viewing. The campground maintains a rustic character with hand-pump water and vault toilets conveniently spaced throughout. Located just eight miles from St. Ignace, the campground provides a peaceful retreat while remaining accessible to restaurants, museums, and historic sites. The surrounding Hiawatha National Forest offers additional recreational opportunities including Grand Island National Recreation Area, Whitefish Scenic Byway, multiple lighthouses, and diverse habitats featuring northern hardwoods, jackpine, and inland wetlands.

Directions

From the intersection of US-2 and I-75, drive north on I-75 to exit 352. Turn right on County Road 123/M-123, then turn left on Mackinac Trail (H-63). Drive north approximately 5.2 miles, turn left onto FR 3445 and drive 0.25 mile to the campground.
