Gusty southeast winds as high as 20 to locally 25 mph, combined with dry conditions will lead to elevated wildfire potential this afternoon across most of Upper Michigan away from the shorelines of the Great Lakes. Avoid outdoor burning today. Immediately report any wildfires to local emergency services by calling 911. Burn restrictions remain in effect. About

Lake Michigan Campground at St. Ignace offers a unique Upper Peninsula camping experience where 20-30 foot sand dunes separate you from miles of sandy Lake Michigan beaches. The commonly high winds create excellent body-surfing conditions, while the dunes provide a natural backdrop to the 33 campsites. Shorebirds like the Spotted Sandpiper are frequently spotted running along the beach throughout the day. The campground provides access to the Sand Dunes Cross-Country Ski Trail and connects to the North Country National Scenic Trail, which winds through valleys, hilltops, prairies, and forests. While Lake Michigan offers fishing opportunities, nearby Brevort Lake (5 miles away) is the preferred spot for walleye, pike, bass, perch, and crappie. St. Ignace lies about 18 miles east along US-2. All sites are standard non-electric with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills. Vault toilets and drinking water are available on-site. There is no dump station at this campground, but one is available at Brevort Lake Campground. Firewood from outside the local area is prohibited to prevent the spread of invasive species.
