About
Lake Michigan Campground at St. Ignace provides a unique camping experience along the shores of Lake Michigan in Hiawatha National Forest. The 35 campsites are nestled in sand dunes that reach heights of 20 to 30 feet, offering both shaded and open sites for tent and RV camping. The campground stretches along a bluff between US-2 and the lake, where dunes, waves, sand and wind create a distinctive environment. Campers enjoy direct beach access with miles of sandy shoreline perfect for body-surfing during high winds, swimming, and watching shorebirds like the Spotted Sandpiper. The area features excellent hiking opportunities including the Sand Dunes Cross-Country Ski Trail and the North Country National Scenic Trail, which connects diverse natural areas from valleys to hilltops and prairies to forests. While Lake Michigan offers fishing opportunities, nearby Brevort Lake (about 5 miles away) is preferred by anglers for catches of walleye, pike, bass, perch and crappie. The campground operates with a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites. Facilities include picnic tables, campfire rings with grills, accessible vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection. No hookups are provided, and parking spurs are grass and dirt. A dump station is available at nearby Brevort Lake. The campground is located approximately 18 miles west of St. Ignace and the Mackinac Bridge on US-2.
