About

Cheboygan State Park encompasses 1,250 acres along the shores of Lake Huron in northeastern Michigan, offering diverse year-round recreational opportunities. The park features nearly 4 miles of scenic shoreline with a family-friendly swimming beach on Duncan Bay, complemented by modern beach facilities. An extensive trail system provides access to stunning Lake Huron vistas, rare wildflowers, and the historic Cheboygan Point Light site, where visitors can explore the foundation remains of the 1859 lighthouse that served until 1930. The park's waterways offer excellent fishing opportunities, with northern pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass, and panfish in the bay, while Little Bill Elliott Creek is renowned for its speckled brown trout. Paddlers can rent single or tandem kayaks seasonally to explore the coastline. The trail system accommodates hikers and mountain bikers during warmer months and cross-country skiers in winter, with the park remaining accessible year-round. Cheboygan State Park serves as an ideal base camp for exploring the Huron Shores Heritage Route, a 200-mile scenic drive along US-23. The park offers various overnight accommodations including a modern three-bedroom lodge, three rustic lakeside cabins accessible via seasonal trails, and a group-use area. The park's modern campground with 72 sites is currently closed for facility renovations but the lodge, cabins, and group area remain available for reservations.
