Straight Lake State Park is a 2,000-acre primitive park in Polk County featuring two undeveloped wild lakes: Straight Lake and Rainbow Lake. The park's 10 hike-in campsites offer a secluded backcountry camping experience, with sites ranging from a few hundred feet to 0.3 miles from the parking area. Supply carts are available from May 1 through October 31 to help transport gear. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table. The park is best known for hosting a premier 6-mile segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, which showcases the region's glacial features and provides excellent vistas. Additional hiking options include the Rainbow Lake Trail, Glacial Trail, High Point Trail, and Straight Lake Trail. Both lakes offer carry-in canoe and kayak access, with excellent fishing for bass, northern pike, panfish, and brown trout. Winter camping is available for hardy tent campers, though the campground parking lot is not plowed. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing are popular cold-weather activities. The park operates on a carry-in/carry-out basis with no potable water available.

Directions

From the north, take 270 Avenue east from Highway 35. From the south, take County Road GG/120th Street north from Highway 48. The park is located near the village of Luck in Polk County.
