About

Interstate South Campground is part of Interstate State Park, Wisconsin's oldest state park established in 1900. The park sits along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and features the Dalles of the St. Croix, a steep-sided gorge carved by glacial meltwater during the last ice age. The South Campground provides a more rustic experience compared to its electric-equipped North Campground counterpart. The campground contains 44 family campsites, all non-electric. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table. Vault toilets and drinking water are available, though showers are only located at the North Campground and accessible to registered campers. A dump station sits across from the Ice Age Interpretive Center, where campers can also purchase firewood (available via vending machine when the center is closed). From November 15 through April 30, the South Campground operates as hike-in tent camping only, with parking available outside the campground gate. RV and camper camping is not permitted in the parking lot area during winter months. The park is open year-round from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with a vehicle admission sticker required for entry.
