About
Stokes State Forest Campground sits within one of New Jersey's largest state forests, spanning over 16,000 acres of forested ridges in the Kittatinny Mountains. The campground system includes multiple distinct areas: the main family campground with 90 tent and trailer sites, Steam Mill Camping Area with 27 sites, Lake Ocquittunk with 26 sites and 10 cabins, and Shotwell with 27 sites plus 9 lean-tos. The 10 group sites at Haskins accommodate parties from 10 to 65 people.
Every site comes with a fire ring and picnic table. Flush toilets and hot showers are available at certain locations while others have pit toilets. The cabins near Lake Ocquittunk include cold and hot running water, refrigerators, electric stoves, and wood stoves. Lean-tos at Shotwell also have wood stoves. Shotwell and family campsites 101-137 welcome pets on leashes no longer than six feet.
The forest offers excellent trout fishing in Big Flat Brook, extensive hiking on 45+ miles of trails including a section of the Appalachian Trail, and panoramic views from Sunrise Mountain. Mountain biking, hunting in season, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling round out the recreational opportunities.
