About

William C. Sterling State Park is Michigan's only state park on Lake Erie, offering a unique Great Lakes camping experience along a mile of sandy shoreline. Located in Monroe County just south of Detroit and near the Ohio border, the park's modern campground features 256 generous, mostly paved sites with the majority offering Lake Erie views and beach access within steps. The campground provides electric hookups at all sites with 76 sites featuring 50-amp service, plus a sanitation station and modern restrooms. The park encompasses over 1,300 acres including more than 500 acres of protected Great Lakes marsh and restored lake plain prairie habitat. Anglers are drawn to the excellent walleye and perch fisheries accessible from shore and the barrier-free boat launch on the north end. The park also offers 10 full-amenity cottages operated by Vista Recreation, each sleeping seven guests with full kitchens and screened porches overlooking the lake. Recreational opportunities include swimming in the buoyed swim area, hiking the Marsh Trail with its observation tower, biking on trails including the River Raisin Heritage Connector Trail to downtown Monroe, and paddling in Lake Erie with kayak rentals available Memorial Day through Labor Day. Winter activities include snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The park features modern restrooms, a beach house with changing facilities, picnic shelters, playground, fish cleaning station, and seasonal nature programs.
