About
Mary Jane Thurston Campground is located within Mary Jane Thurston State Park, a 105-acre property situated along the historic Maumee State Scenic River in Wood County, Ohio. Named for a local schoolteacher who donated the original land in 1928, the park was officially dedicated in 1968 and has become a popular destination for families seeking river-based recreation and camping. The campground offers approximately 31 sites, most with electric hookups. Sites feature either stone pads or paved pads, with the paved sites typically commanding a slightly higher fee. While the campground does not offer full hookups, a dump station is available nearby along with a camp store that stocks camping essentials. The intimate size of the campground creates a quieter atmosphere compared to larger state park facilities. Visitors enjoy direct access to the Maumee River, which is renowned for some of Ohio's best stream fishing. The park also features nine miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, as well as remnants of the historic Miami and Erie and Wabash and Erie canals. A boat launch and marina are located a short distance from the campground, making it easy for boaters to access the river.
