About

Island Lake Campground & Cabins is situated within Island Lake State Recreation Area, a 4,000-acre natural area in southeast Michigan near Brighton. The park offers three distinct camping options: two rustic bunkhouse cabins centrally located in the park, two primitive canoe-in campsites along the Huron River, and two group campsites. Each rustic cabin accommodates up to 15 guests with bunk beds, tables, benches, and a propane furnace for heat. A hand pump provides fresh water nearby, though guests must bring their own linens, towels, cookware, and utensils. Outside each cabin is a fire pit, picnic table, and large charcoal grill, with vault toilets located nearby. The canoe campground along the Huron River is designed specifically for paddlers, with a one-night maximum stay. These sites are only accessible by canoe or kayak and include a vault toilet, fire ring, and picnic table. The group campsites each accommodate up to 50 people and feature picnic tables, fire pits, hand pump water access, and vault toilets. The recreation area features four inland lakes, the Huron River, over 23 miles of multi-use trails for hiking and mountain biking, two buoyed swim areas, and a shooting range. Modern restrooms are available mid-April through October at various locations throughout the park.
