Proud Lake Recreation Area is a 3,000-acre state recreation area located on the scenic Huron River in Commerce Township, Michigan, about 40 minutes from downtown Detroit. The modern campground sits on the shores of Proud Lake and features 130 sites arranged on two loops. Some sites offer lake views while others are nestled against the woods. All sites are back-in with either grass or cement pads and include 30- or 50-amp electrical service, fire rings, and picnic tables. The campground provides excellent facilities including a modern bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers, featuring family bathrooms with built-in shower seats. A sanitation station with three lanes and potable water is available for RV campers. Unique to this campground is a buoyed swim area accessible only to registered campers, along with a boat ramp and canoe/kayak rentals available Memorial Day through Labor Day. Beyond camping, the recreation area offers over 20 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The park also features volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, and access to excellent fishing and paddling on the Huron River. Mini cabins and the River Hawk Lodge provide alternative lodging options for those seeking more comfort.

Directions

From I-96, take exit 155 (Wixom Road) and head north on Wixom Road for approximately 4 miles. The park entrance is on the left at 3500 N. Wixom Road, Commerce Township.
