About

Proud Lake Recreation Area encompasses approximately 3,000 acres along the scenic Huron River in southwest Oakland County, just 40 minutes from downtown Detroit. The modern campground features 130 sites arranged in two loops, many with lake views or wooded settings. Sites offer 30- or 50-amp electrical service and access to a three-lane sanitation station. The campground includes a buoyed swim area on Proud Lake, modern restroom and shower facilities, and boat launch access for registered campers. Accommodation options extend beyond traditional campsites to include two cozy mini cabins sleeping four, two accessible year-round camper cabins with heating and air conditioning, and the River Hawk Lodge that accommodates up to 26 guests. The park also offers youth and all-ages group camping areas. Recreational opportunities are extensive, with miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding maintained by local trail associations. The Huron River flows through the park and is managed as a Type I trout stream with annual stocking. Multiple boating access points serve both the river and Proud Lake. Paddlesport rentals are available Memorial Day through Labor Day in the day-use area and campground. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and backcountry snowmobiling.
