About
Middle Bass Island State Park Campground is located on the southwest side of Middle Bass Island in the western basin of Lake Erie. This primitive tent-only campground offers a secluded island camping experience with approximately 10-20 non-electric sites, including some waterfront locations where campers can pitch tents along the shores of Lake Erie. The island is accessible only by private boat, plane, or seasonal ferry service. The campground features a small rocky beach and is adjacent to a 190-slip marina that provides amenities including drinking water, WiFi, and a camp store. During the operating season, the park offers bike, kayak, and paddleboard rentals. Flush toilets with showers are located near the marina, approximately a 5-minute walk from the campsites, with additional vault toilets closer to the camping area. Sites must be accessed on foot as vehicles cannot drive to individual campsites, though two vehicles are permitted per site in the parking area. The campground operates seasonally, typically from mid-May through mid-October when ferry service is available. During the off-season from November through April, the park remains technically open but water systems are not operational and access is limited to private boat or plane. The island setting provides a quiet, isolated camping experience with opportunities for beachcombing, fishing, boating, and exploring the historic island community.
