About

Staunton River State Park Shelters offer overnight accommodations in a camping lodge format within one of Virginia's most scenic state parks. The shelter facility provides a communal camping experience with multiple bunk beds accommodating up to 14 guests, electrical outlets, picnic tables, and a fire ring with cooking grate. Guests have access to a heated bathhouse with showers and restrooms, as well as laundry facilities. Linens and pillows are not provided. The park spans 2,400 acres along the confluence of the Dan and Staunton rivers, featuring woodlands, meadows, and extensive shoreline. Originally developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the park retains much of its historic character. Amenities include over 17 miles of multi-use trails suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, as well as multiple boat launches with a universally accessible fishing dock. Reservations are available through the Virginia State Parks reservation system. The shelter area operates seasonally from the first Friday in March through the first Monday in December. A minimum two-night stay is required. Check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out varies by accommodation type.
