About
Staunton River State Park encompasses 1,597 acres along the scenic shoreline of John H. Kerr Reservoir, locally known as Buggs Island Lake, at the confluence of the Dan and Staunton rivers in southern Virginia. The campground provides 48 sites across several categories: four electric/water sites accommodating RVs up to 45 feet, ten electric/water sites for rigs up to 30 feet, twenty electric/water sites for pop-ups and tents up to 20 feet, and thirteen standard tent-only sites without hookups.
Amenities include a heated bathhouse with hot showers, a dump station, laundry facilities, and water spigots throughout. Each campsite features a fire ring, charcoal grill, and picnic table. The park also offers an equestrian campground with pull-through sites accommodating trailers up to 55 feet and covered stalls.
Beyond camping, the park features seven historic CCC-built cabins from the 1930s, 17 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, and excellent fishing and boating access on the reservoir. The Captain Staunton pool operates during summer months.
