Occoneechee State Park Shelters

Open

The shelters are open for reservations from the first weekend in March through the first weekend in December. Available 8 a.m. until dusk for day-use only. Reservations recommended for weekends.

About

Occoneechee State Park's picnic shelters provide group gathering spaces on Virginia's largest lake, John H. Kerr Reservoir (locally known as Buggs Island Lake). The park sits in Mecklenburg County near Clarksville and offers scenic lake views along with access to the park's trails and amenities. Two shelters are available for reservation. Shelter 1 is a smaller facility near the playground that comfortably accommodates up to 35 people, with a trail leading to lakefront views. Shelter 2 is the larger option, holding up to 100 guests and meeting universal accessibility standards. Both shelters feature electrical outlets, lights, and access to nearby modern restroom facilities. These are day-use facilities operating from 8 a.m. until dusk. They are not available for overnight use. Guests seeking overnight accommodations at Occoneechee should consider the park's campsites, cabins, yurts, or lodges instead.
