About
Staunton River State Park sits on 1,597 acres along the Dan and Staunton rivers where they flow into Buggs Island Lake, Virginia's largest lake. The park's eight cabins were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s and retain their historic rustic character while offering modern amenities. Cabin types include one efficiency unit, two one-bedroom cabins, and four two-bedroom cabins, all featuring climate control, a wood-burning fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffeemaker, and cooking utensils.
Each cabin has a private bathroom with shower, though guests must bring their own linens and towels. Outside, every cabin includes a fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill, and a deck with patio furniture. Cabin 1 is ADA accessible, though most other cabins have doorway width limitations. Pets are permitted for an additional $20 per night.
The park offers extensive recreational opportunities including a swimming pool (seasonal), boat launch with access to the reservoir, fishing, over 10 miles of hiking and biking trails, an equestrian campground, and a designated dark sky observation area. The visitor center houses a gift shop and snack bar, and the park provides disc golf equipment rentals.
