Staunton River Battlefield State Park Picnic Shelter
This is a day-use picnic shelter, not a campground. No overnight camping is available. The shelter is available for daily rental from April 1 through November 1, 9 a.m. to dusk.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin and Virginia, including the following areas, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Bland, Botetourt, Buckingham, Campbell, Carroll, Charlotte, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Grayson, Halifax, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Pulaski, Roanoke, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A slow moving front will focus a west to east moving area of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Staunton River Battlefield State Park Picnic Shelter is a day-use rental facility located at the historic Civil War battlefield site in Halifax County, Virginia. The shelter accommodates up to 90 people and is available for rental from 9 a.m. to dusk between April 1 and November 1. This is explicitly a day-use only park with no overnight camping permitted. The shelter includes grills, picnic tables, and access to restrooms inside the visitor center when it is open (Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.). The park itself is open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk. Campers seeking overnight accommodations should note that Staunton River State Park, which offers camping and cabins, is located approximately 20 minutes away.
