About
Hawn State Park Campground sits within nearly 5,000 acres of some of Missouri's most significant and scenic landscapes, characterized by hills of pine and oak trees, sandy-bottom streams, and dramatic sandstone canyons and cliffs. The main campground offers both basic and electric sites beneath a canopy of lofty pines, with some secluded walk-in sites available for tent campers seeking additional privacy. The sandy, pine-needle-covered forest floor creates a unique camping environment in western Ste. Genevieve County. The park is renowned for its trail system, which ranges from short walks to the nearly 10-mile Whispering Pine Trail, considered one of the best backpacking trails in Missouri. The Pickle Creek Trail showcases the park's geological features, including granite boulders and sandstone formations. Three state-designated natural areas within the park—Pickle Creek, LaMotte Sandstone Barrens, and Botkins Pine Woods—preserve significant natural communities. The campground also features backcountry camping sites along the trail system, available by reservation. Five walk-in tent sites provide a more primitive camping experience while still offering reservation convenience.
Directions
From Ste. Genevieve, travel approximately 16 miles west on Highway 32 to Missouri Highway 144. Turn left onto Highway 144; the park is about 4 miles down the road.
