About

Hawn State Park Back Country Camping offers a true wilderness experience in Missouri's Ozark highlands. The park features 13 designated backcountry sites spread across two trail systems: Spanish Land Grant Trail (2 regular sites plus 1 group site) and Whispering Pine Trail (10 sites). Each site includes a metal fire ring and accommodates up to 6 hikers, while the group site (BG1) handles up to 16. The trails wind through stands of shortleaf pine, a rarity in Missouri, and pass scenic Pickle Creek with its unique sandstone box canyon. Backcountry campers must pack out all trash and bury human/pet waste at least 200 feet from water sources. Water is available at the park office and main campground, but natural water sources along the trail require treatment before drinking. Reservations are available year-round through icampmo.com or by calling 877-422-6766. Same-day online reservations are accepted March through November until 7 p.m. Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is 2 p.m. Dogs must remain leashed at all times.
