About
Martin Lake Cabin offers a quintessential Alaska backcountry experience in Chugach National Forest. This 12x14 foot rustic cabin sits at the outlet of Martin Lake, surrounded by alder and willow marsh with steep mountains rising behind. The area supports abundant wildlife including Sitka black-tailed deer, moose, black and brown bears, mountain goats, and waterfowl. The cabin is furnished with wooden bunks for up to six guests, a table, benches, woodstove, oil stove, and basic tools including a saw, axe, and splitting maul. A rainwater catchment barrel and outdoor pit toilet are provided. Guests must bring all drinking water, firewood, #1 stove oil, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, and food supplies. A rowboat is available for exploring the lake. Fishing here is considered some of the best in the Cordova District. The outlet stream produces salmon and trout, while inlet streams at the far end of the lake are prime spots for coho salmon. Dolly Varden follow spawning salmon, and cutthroat-rainbow hybrids inhabit the lakes and creeks. Hunting seasons for deer and bear are also popular draws.
