About
Martin Lake Cabin offers an authentic remote Alaska experience in the Chugach National Forest. This 12x14-foot rustic cabin sits at the outlet of Martin Lake, surrounded by alder and willow marsh with steep mountains rising behind. Accessible only by float plane (30 minutes from Cordova), the cabin accommodates up to six guests and is equipped with wooden bunks, a table, benches, wood stove, oil stove, saw, axe, splitting maul, a rainwater catchment barrel, and an outdoor pit toilet. The cabin is renowned for excellent fishing opportunities. The outlet stream produces salmon and trout, while inlet streams at the far end of the lake are prime spots for coho salmon. Dolly Varden, cutthroat, and rainbow trout hybrids are also present. A rowboat is provided, though visitors often rent a long shaft motor in Cordova to reach distant fishing spots. Hunters can pursue bear in spring and fall, and Sitka black-tailed deer from late summer through late fall. This is an extremely remote location requiring complete self-sufficiency. Guests must bring their own drinking water, firewood, #1 stove oil, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking equipment, food, and all other supplies. Inclement weather can extend trips by 2-5 days, so extra provisions are essential. The area is home to moose, black bear, brown bear, and mountain goats. All trash must be packed out.
Directions
Access by float plane only, typically 30 minutes from Cordova. Float planes land on Martin Lake next to the cabin. In fall, winter and early spring, the cabin may be inaccessible due to frozen lake surface.
