About
McKinley Trail Cabin is a historic 12-by-14 foot log cabin built in 1918 in the Chugach National Forest. The cabin and its associated dump site are determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Situated just 80 yards from the Copper River Highway at Mile 21, it offers easy access while maintaining a wilderness character in Alaska's Copper River Delta region. The cabin sleeps up to six guests in wooden bunkbeds and comes furnished with a table and wood stove for heat. An outdoor pit toilet is provided. There is no running water, electricity, or firewood supplied, so visitors must bring drinking water, firewood, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, lanterns, toilet paper, garbage bags, and all food and personal supplies. The cabin serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the Copper River Delta. Fishing, hiking, hunting, and wildlife viewing opportunities abound in the surrounding area. The McKinley Lake Trail continues past the cabin and connects to the Pipeline Lakes Trail approximately 1.25 miles from the trailhead. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov with a maximum stay of 7 consecutive days.
Directions
