About
Little Elden Springs Horse Camp sits at the base of Mount Elden in a ponderosa pine and Gambel oak forest, offering equestrian campers direct trail access and stunning views of the 12,000-foot San Francisco Peaks. The campground was purpose-built for horse camping, with 15 pull-through sites that accommodate truck and trailer combinations up to 40 feet. Each site includes two hitching posts, a picnic table, and a fire pit. Water pumps and horse troughs are distributed throughout the loop. The Mount Elden/Dry Lake Hills Trail System is accessible directly from camp, providing over 30 miles of trails suitable for horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking at various skill levels. The nearby Weatherford Trail at Schultz Tank provides access to the Kachina Peaks Wilderness. Fall foliage in the surrounding aspens makes this an excellent autumn destination. This is an equestrian-only facility. Campers must have horses or mules to reserve a site. Gray water and sewage must be transported to an off-site dump station, and visitors are required to clean up hay, feed, and manure before departure. Manure may be disposed of in the on-site trash receptacles.
