About

Little Elden Springs Horse Camp is a dedicated equestrian facility in the Coconino National Forest, designed specifically for campers traveling with horses. Located at the base of Mount Elden in a lush ponderosa pine and gambel oak forest, the campground offers stunning views of the 12,000-foot San Francisco Peaks. All 15 campsites are designed for easy access with horse trailers, accommodating combined vehicle and trailer lengths up to 35 feet. Each site includes two hitching posts, a picnic table, fire pit, and ample parking space. The accessible restroom is provided, though stalls and corrals are not available. The campground provides exceptional trail access directly from camp, connecting to the Mount Elden/Dry Lake Hills Trail System with over 30 miles of trails for all levels of riding, hiking, and mountain biking. Riders can also access the Kachina Peaks Wilderness via the Weatherford Trail near Schultz Tank just up the road. The area features healthy populations of mule deer and elk, and fall foliage can be spectacular when aspens turn gold. Summer temperatures are pleasant, ranging from the 60s to 80s, with occasional afternoon thunderstorms. The campground is located just 6 miles north of Flagstaff, providing convenient access to town amenities while offering a secluded mountain experience.
