About
Kendrick Cabin is a rustic three-bedroom cabin located at 7,910 feet elevation in the scenic Kendrick Park area at the base of the San Francisco Peaks. Originally built in the 1960s as a fire guard station, this two-story masonry and wood structure has been converted into a group rental facility accommodating up to 10 people. The cabin features a solar lighting system, propane stovetop and refrigerator, wood stove for heat, and a dining area. Sleeping arrangements include one double bed downstairs and two twin beds in each of the two upstairs bedrooms, plus two futon couches. An accessible ramp provides wheelchair access to the main floor. The property includes an outdoor bathhouse with flush toilet and shower, available when water is running mid-May through mid-October. Outside of these months, a vault toilet is available. Additional amenities include a grill, campfire ring, and picnic tables. The cabin has no electricity or cell phone coverage. Guests must bring bedding, towels, flashlights, and other personal items. The location offers spectacular views of the San Francisco Peaks, Kendrick Mountain, and the surrounding ponderosa pine forest. The adjacent Kendrick Park Watchable Wildlife Trail provides opportunities to see elk, deer, antelope, and other wildlife. The cabin is just 22 miles from Flagstaff and approximately 58 miles from the Grand Canyon's South Rim, making it an ideal base for exploring northern Arizona's outdoor recreation opportunities including hiking the Kendrick Mountain Trail and numerous trails on the San Francisco Peaks.
Directions
From Interstate 17 or Interstate 40 in Flagstaff, follow signs to Highway 180 toward the Grand Canyon. Drive approximately 20 miles north on Fort Valley Road/Highway 180 and look for the Watchable Wildlife Trail on the left and a roadside chapel on the right. Continue less than a mile past the chapel and turn right onto Forest Road 514. Go exactly one mile and turn left at the sign for Kendrick Cabin. The cabin is a half-mile further at the end of this road.
