Echo Park Campground

About

Echo Park Campground occupies a dramatic location along the Green River where it meets the Yampa River in Dinosaur National Monument. Steamboat Rock, a massive sandstone monolith, dominates the view from nearly every campsite. The surrounding canyon walls display ancient Fremont petroglyphs, and bighorn sheep and mule deer frequently pass through the campground. The 22 campsites include 17 standard drive-in sites, 4 walk-in tent sites, and one reservable group site for up to 25 people. All sites have picnic tables, and most have fire rings (walk-in sites 18-21 lack fire rings). Vault toilets are available year-round, and potable water spigots operate seasonally during warmer months. Access requires navigating 13 miles of the Echo Park Road, which demands high-clearance vehicles with at least AWD. The road becomes impassable during rain or snow, and the campground is typically inaccessible from November through April. RVs and trailers of any size are prohibited. Unimproved trails lead to the river confluence and views of the Mitten Park Fault.

Directions

From the Canyon Visitor Center in Dinosaur, Colorado, drive north on Harpers Corner Road for 31 miles. Turn right onto the unpaved Echo Park Road. After 8 miles, turn left at the fork and continue 5 miles to the campground. High-clearance 4WD required. Road is impassable when wet. Allow 90 minutes from the town of Dinosaur.
