Rough Sections of Echo Park and Yampa Bench Roads

About
Situated at the confluence area where the Yampa River meets the Green River, Echo Park Campground provides one of the most spectacular and remote camping experiences in Dinosaur National Monument. The campground sits at the base of massive canyon walls with the iconic Steamboat Rock dominating the landscape. Ancient Fremont petroglyphs can be found on the canyon walls, and wildlife including bighorn sheep and mule deer regularly roam through camp. The campground features 17 individual first-come, first-served sites and 1 group site available by reservation. All sites accommodate tents, vans, and truck campers only. RVs and trailers of any size are prohibited due to the extremely challenging access road. The 13-mile Echo Park Road descends from Harpers Corner Road through rugged terrain with deep sand sections, exposed rocks, washouts, and steep grades. High-clearance 4WD vehicles are essential, and the road becomes completely impassable when wet or snowy. While open year-round, the campground operates with seasonal services. Potable water is available during summer months but not in winter. The road receives no winter maintenance, making access difficult or impossible during snow season. Each campsite includes a fire grate and picnic table. Unimproved trails lead to the Yampa-Green confluence and scenic overlooks of the Mitten Park Fault. This is a true backcountry camping experience in one of the most geologically and scenically striking areas of the Colorado Plateau.
