Open for day-use reservations. Operating hours are 9:00 AM to 3:45 PM in early May, extending to 9:00 AM to 7:45 PM from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This is a day-use shelter only; overnight camping is not permitted.

This will pose a moderate to major risk of heat-related illness. * WHERE...Eastern Columbia River Gorge of Oregon and Washington, Lower Columbia Basin of Oregon and Washington, Foothills of the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon, Yakima Valley, and Foothills of the Blue Mountains of Washington. * WHEN...From 11 AM Tuesday to 9 PM PDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heat will begin on Tuesday, with widespread moderate and locally major HeatRisk. Wednesday looks to be the hottest day, with Major HeatRisk across the Columbia Basin, Yakima Valley and portions of the Gorge and Blue Mountain Foothills. Thursday will also see widespread moderate HeatRisk and locally major HeatRisk, mainly across the Columbia Basin. Smoke from area wildfires could end up affecting how hot temperatures get.

Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory until 4 PM PDT Wednesday. For the Smoke Air Quality Advisory, wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. About
Spillway Park Chinook Shelter is a day-use group picnic facility operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Lake Umatilla near McNary Dam in Umatilla County, Oregon. This is not an overnight campground. The covered shelter is designed for group gatherings and events during daytime hours only. The shelter accommodates larger groups with eight picnic tables, two cooking grills, electric hookups, built-in restrooms, and nearby trash receptacles. An adjacent playground makes it suitable for family gatherings. The park setting along the Columbia River provides scenic views of McNary Dam from two overlooks, plus access to a volleyball court and the McNary Dam Wildlife Area trail system. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov. Operating hours are 9:00 AM to 3:45 PM during the first two weeks of May, expanding to 9:00 AM to 7:45 PM from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Groups must check out by 3:30 PM and clean the shelter before departure.
Directions
From Highway 730, turn north on Devore Road. At the stop sign, turn left and continue down the hill past McNary Dam's main parking lot. Spillway Park Shelter will be on your right once you enter the park.
