About

Spillway Park Chinook Shelter is a day-use group picnic facility operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Lake Umatilla near McNary Dam in Umatilla County, Oregon. This is not an overnight campground. The covered shelter is designed for group gatherings and events during daytime hours only. The shelter accommodates larger groups with eight picnic tables, two cooking grills, electric hookups, built-in restrooms, and nearby trash receptacles. An adjacent playground makes it suitable for family gatherings. The park setting along the Columbia River provides scenic views of McNary Dam from two overlooks, plus access to a volleyball court and the McNary Dam Wildlife Area trail system. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov. Operating hours are 9:00 AM to 3:45 PM during the first two weeks of May, expanding to 9:00 AM to 7:45 PM from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Groups must check out by 3:30 PM and clean the shelter before departure.
