About

Hat Rock State Park offers day-use recreation on the south shore of Lake Wallula, nine miles east of Umatilla off U.S. Highway 730. The park sits behind McNary Dam on the Columbia River and features spacious grounds ideal for family gatherings and group outings. Visitors can fish for rainbow trout in the park's stocked pond, launch boats for access to Lake Wallula's excellent walleye and sturgeon fishing, or enjoy water skiing and jet skiing on the reservoir. The park's namesake, Hat Rock, holds historical significance as the first distinctive landmark passed by the Lewis and Clark Expedition on their journey down the Columbia River. A trail leads to the base of this landmark, offering interpretive displays along the way. The park includes 50 picnic tables, four reservable group areas accommodating up to 100 people each, a volleyball sand court, and two ADA-accessible restrooms. This is a day-use only facility with no overnight camping. Flush restrooms may close during winter due to cold weather, with pit toilets available as an alternative.
