About
Sparrowfoot Campground is situated on the Grand River Arm of Harry S. Truman Lake in Henry County, Missouri. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground provides 83 sites divided between two loops: 56 sites in the A-loop with 50-amp electric and water hookups, and 27 sites in the B-loop with 30-amp electric only. Sites can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 58 feet. Amenities include flush and vault toilets, hot showers, drinking water, laundry facilities, a playground, dump station, and boat ramp. The lake is a premier fishing destination, attracting tournament anglers and recreational fishermen alike. Crappie, largemouth and spotted bass, walleye, paddlefish, and blue and channel catfish are abundant. Approximately 8,800 acres of standing timber were intentionally left in the reservoir to create quality aquatic habitat. A mosaic of hardwood forests and grasslands covers the surrounding rolling hills, with rocky bluffs extending into the water. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with whitetail deer, wild turkey, hawks, ospreys, bald eagles, and various waterfowl frequently spotted. Two day-use group picnic shelters are available for family gatherings. Nearby Katy Trail State Park, the nation's longest rails-to-trails project, offers biking and hiking from Clinton to Machens.
