Thorny Ridge Campground

Open — Open year-round. Water systems, showerhouse, and dump station are turned off during the off-season; bring your own potable water during this time.

About

Thorny Ridge Campground sits within Harry S Truman State Park along Truman Lake in western Missouri. This established campground offers 42 basic, non-electric campsites in a natural wooded setting. One of the park's standout features is the private beach at Thorny Ridge, accessible exclusively to campground guests. The campground provides standard amenities including picnic tables and grills at each site, along with vault toilets, showers, and water access during the primary camping season. The campground is fully reservable through the Missouri State Parks system, though sites may be available for walk-up customers on a day-by-day basis if not reserved. During the off-season, water systems, showers, and the dump station are turned off, so campers should bring their own potable water. The park enforces a 15-day limit within any 30-consecutive-day period. Pets are welcome on leashes no longer than 10 feet. The location provides access to Truman Lake for fishing, boating, and water recreation, with the Truman State Park Marina nearby for ice and camping supplies. Four of the sites at Thorny Ridge are designated as ADA accessible with nearby water hydrants and concrete pathways.
