About

Thorny Ridge Campground is one of six campgrounds at Harry S Truman State Park, situated on a scenic peninsula jutting into Truman Lake in Benton County, Missouri. The campground features 42 basic non-electric campsites scattered through native oak woodlands, with individual site pads measuring between 47 and 60 feet. Four family sites offer larger pads (52-55 feet) with an additional electric hookup for those needing power. Campers have access to a centrally located shower house with hot showers, modern restrooms, and laundry facilities. Vault toilets are distributed throughout the loop. An RV dump station is available during the operating season. The boat ramp at the peninsula's tip provides direct Truman Lake access, with parking accommodating both trailers and day-use vehicles. The park offers excellent fishing for crappie, bass, catfish, and spoonbill, along with swimming at a campers-only beach, hiking trails through the bluffs and woodlands, and wildlife viewing opportunities. The marina with a camp store is located nearby within the park.
