Open — The campground is currently open with sites 1-30 available for reservations. Sites 31-61 are closed from October 1 through March 31. The park operates at full capacity from April 1 through September 30.

About

Sowell Creek Park is nestled within the beautiful Cross Timbers Region of Texas on the east side of Proctor Lake, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The park appeals to sportsmen, birdwatchers, naturalists, and those seeking outdoor relaxation in a lakeside setting. The campground offers 61 campsites with various hookup options, including standard 30-amp electric sites, premium 50-amp sites, and full hookup sites with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer. Three restroom/shower facilities serve the camping areas. The park features large, open grassy areas with sparse shade but plentiful lake views, characterized by Black Willow and Buttonbush vegetation. Proctor Lake is renowned for fishing, with tremendous populations of Bass, Crappie, and Catfish, and is recognized as one of the best Hybrid Striped Bass fishing areas in Texas. Sowell Creek provides a boat ramp and fishing pier for easy water access. Three day-use areas offer swim beaches, picnic sites, and a playground. High Point Park nearby offers more than 10 miles of hiking and equestrian trails. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov, and the park operates seasonally with reduced capacity in winter months.

Directions

From Comanche, Texas, take Highway 67/377 east for 12 miles to the town of Proctor. Turn left on FM 1476 west and continue 2 miles to Recreation Road 6. Turn left and continue for 1/2 mile to the park entrance.
