About
Colorado Bend State Park encompasses over 5,300 acres of rugged Texas Hill Country along the Colorado River. The park's centerpiece is Gorman Falls, a dramatic 70-foot waterfall formed by mineral-rich springs depositing travertine over thousands of years. Beyond the falls, visitors find wild caves, spring-fed swimming holes, and over 35 miles of trails winding through juniper woodlands and limestone canyons. Camping options include primitive drive-up sites suitable for small self-contained RVs up to 20 feet, walk-in tent sites along the scenic riverbank, and remote backcountry sites accessed by hiking. The main camping areas have potable water, composting toilets, and an open-air rinse-off shower. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Backcountry camping is more spartan with no facilities and containerized stove use only. The park is popular for fishing (white bass runs in spring), swimming in natural pools, birding, and guided wild cave tours. The terrain is rocky and unshaded so hikers should carry ample water. Weather can cause road flooding and closures, so check conditions before visiting.
