Possum Kingdom State Park encompasses rugged Hill Country terrain along one of Texas's clearest lakes. The park caters to campers of all styles, from those seeking full-service sites with 20/30/50-amp electric and water hookups to backpackers preferring primitive walk-in sites requiring a 50-150 yard hike. Four distinct camping areas serve different needs: Spanish Oaks offers premium electric/water sites, Shady Grove provides electric/water hookups for smaller RVs up to 25 feet, the Lakeview and Chaparral Trail areas feature water-only sites, and primitive sites offer solitude with fire rings and picnic tables. The park's facilities include modern restrooms with showers, a well-stocked park store carrying camping and fishing supplies alongside snacks and souvenirs, and a fish cleaning station. Air-conditioned cabins accommodate those preferring a roof overhead. The accessible fishing pier features a cement pathway from parking when lake levels permit use. The lake itself draws anglers pursuing largemouth bass, striped bass, white bass, and catfish. Hiking trails wind through post oak woodlands and mesquite grasslands inhabited by white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and armadillos. The park frequently reaches capacity during peak season from March through October, making advance reservations essential.

From Caddo, Texas: Take US Highway 180 west approximately 17 miles to Park Road 33. Turn north on Park Road 33 and continue approximately 1.5 miles to the park entrance.
