About

Located near Glen Rose in the Texas Hill Country, Dinosaur Valley State Park protects some of the best-preserved dinosaur footprints in the world. The tracks, made by theropods and sauropods roughly 113 million years ago, are visible in the limestone bed of the Paluxy River when water levels permit. Beyond the famous tracks, the 1,587-acre park offers over 20 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking through diverse terrain. The developed Lanham Mill Campground features 36 sites with water and 30-amp electric hookups, each with a picnic table and fire ring or grill. Restrooms with flush toilets and showers serve this area, along with a family bathroom and dump station. For a more primitive experience, eight walk-in sites require a half-mile hike and offer fire rings and lantern posts but no water or restrooms. Seven backcountry hike-in sites across the river provide the most remote option, requiring 1 to 2.5 miles of hiking and river wading. The park frequently reaches capacity, especially on weekends and holidays, so advance reservations through Texas State Parks are strongly recommended. Day-use visitors can explore replica dinosaur models near headquarters, wade in the river, fish for bass and catfish, or borrow assistive mobility equipment for accessible trail sections.
