About

Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway sits 45 minutes west of Fort Worth in Parker County, offering diverse camping and outdoor recreation around a 640-acre lake. The park features multiple camping areas including the Live Oak area with 50-amp electric sites, Plateau area with 30-amp sites, Post Oak area with water-only sites, and Cross Timbers equestrian camping area. For adventurous campers, primitive hike-in sites are located about 2 miles from parking. The park is known for Penitentiary Hollow, one of the few natural rock climbing venues in North Texas, where climbers and rappellers can enjoy various routes. The 20-mile Trailway connects Mineral Wells to Weatherford with flat grades and gentle curves, perfect for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Additional park trails total nearly 13 miles and range from easy lakeside paths to challenging Cross Timbers terrain. On the lake, visitors can fish for catfish, crappie, sunfish, and largemouth bass from six fishing piers scattered around the water. No fishing license is required. Boating is permitted from the boat ramp, and canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals are available at the park store. Swimming is allowed in designated areas. The park is situated in historic cattle country near what was once a popular health resort, adding cultural interest to the natural beauty of the Cross Timbers region.
