Lake Mineral Wells State Park sits in the rolling Cross Timbers region near what was once a famous health resort town. The park wraps around a 646-acre lake offering swimming, fishing from a lighted pier, and boat rentals. Multiple camping areas accommodate different styles: Live Oak has 50-amp sites for larger RVs, Plateau offers 30-amp electric sites on higher ground, Post Oak provides water-only tent camping, and Cross Timbers caters to equestrians with 20 horse-friendly sites. Primitive backcountry camping is available 1.7 miles from the trailhead for those seeking solitude. The 20-mile Trailway is a highlight, with a paved 2-mile section through downtown Mineral Wells and 18 miles of crushed limestone surface open to hikers, bikers, and equestrians. All four trailheads have paved parking and accessible restrooms. The park store sells firewood and rents canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. Note that an Emerald Ash Borer quarantine is in effect; firewood must be purchased locally and cannot be transported into the park. The park operates daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and reaches capacity frequently, so reservations are strongly recommended.
