About

Promontory Campground sits along Proctor Lake in the Cross Timbers Region of Texas, appealing to sportsmen, birders, naturalists, and those seeking outdoor recreation. The campground features 99 camping and picnic sites spread across a large grassy area dotted with black willow trees and buttonbush. While shade is sparse, lake views are plentiful throughout the park. The park includes six restroom/shower facilities, four group shelters, five screen shelters, two boat ramps, and a fishing pier. Camping options range from non-electric sites to premium 50-amp sites with hookups, plus unique screen shelters that can accommodate RVs. A day-use area on the northern side of the park features a restroom/shower facility, picnic sites, and a swim beach. Proctor Lake is the main draw, recognized as one of the best hybrid striped bass lakes in Texas with tremendous populations of bass, shad, and crappie. Boating and swimming are popular water activities. Surrounding wildlife areas provide hunting opportunities for duck, dove, hog, and other small game. High Point Park, located just 2 miles from the campground, offers more than 10 miles of hiking and equestrian trails. The nearby town of Comanche features historical attractions, antique stores, and museums.
