About

Promontory Campground occupies a scenic position along the shores of Proctor Lake in the Cross Timbers Region of central Texas. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground offers 78 sites catering to various camping styles: tent-only primitive sites, standard electric sites with 30-amp power and water hookups, screened overnight shelters with electricity, and group camping areas. Large grassy areas dotted with black willow trees and buttonbush characterize the landscape. Shade is sparse but lake views are plentiful. Fishing is Proctor Lake's main draw, with tremendous populations of largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass, crappie, and shad. The lake is recognized as one of the best hybrid striper fisheries in Texas. Boating and swimming are popular activities, with boat ramps and docks providing easy lake access. The surrounding wildlife areas offer hunting opportunities for duck, dove, hog, and small game. High Point Park, located 2 miles from the campground, features over 10 miles of hiking and equestrian trails. The nearby town of Comanche offers historical attractions, antique stores, and museums.
