About

South Steens Campground is a developed BLM facility located deep in the Steens Mountain Cooperative Management and Protection Area in southeastern Oregon's high desert. The campground offers 36 family sites scattered among juniper and sage, each equipped with a picnic table and grill. Vault restrooms and potable drinking water are available throughout the campground. A separate 15-site equestrian area lies adjacent to the family campground, complete with tie posts and small corrals for horses, mules, llamas, and goats. All sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. The campground fee is $16 per vehicle per night, with additional vehicles at $5 per night. Cash and check are accepted at the self-pay kiosk. America the Beautiful Access or Senior Pass holders receive a 50% discount. The stay limit is 14 days. Recreational stock is prohibited in the family portion of the campground but welcomed at the equestrian sites. Certified weed-free hay is required for all livestock on BLM lands. The campground provides trailhead access to Little Blitzen Gorge and is near the Historic Riddle Brothers Ranch and Big Indian Gorge.
