Idlewild Campground offers a quiet, accessible camping experience in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon. Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the campground features individual campsites and a reservable group picnic shelter that accommodates up to 75 people. The campground sits at 5,000 feet elevation in a large stand of Ponderosa pines and serves as the trailhead for Devine Summit Trail. The campground is popular year-round: hikers and mountain bikers visit in summer, while snowmobilers and cross-country skiers use the area in winter. An Oregon Sno-Park Permit is required November 1 through April 30. The campground can accommodate camp trailers 20 feet and under. No trash service is provided; campers must pack out all garbage. Located approximately 17 miles north of Burns via US Highway 395 and Forest Road 2820, the campground is only about a mile from the highway. Nearby attractions include horse trails and equestrian camping within 10 miles.

Directions

From Burns, OR: Travel 2.8 miles northeast on US Highway 20 to the junction with US Highway 395. Turn left onto US Highway 395 and head north for approximately 14.6 miles to the junction with Forest Road 2820. Turn right and continue on Forest Road 2820 for 0.8 miles to Idlewild Campground Road. Turn right after the Sno-Park and follow Idlewild Road approximately 1 mile to the campground.
