About
Yellowjacket Campground occupies a quiet spot on the shores of Yellowjacket Lake within Malheur National Forest. The lake features a small sand beach and easily accessible shoreline, making it ideal for fishing and non-motorized boating. The surrounding area provides excellent wildlife viewing opportunities with bald eagles, osprey, and pronghorn antelope commonly seen in the vicinity. The campground offers 20 first-come, first-served sites at $10 per night, with vault toilets and a covered group picnic area. Drinking water is available from a hand pump during warmer months (typically mid-May through mid-October), but is shut off during the cold season. Campers should be aware that warmer weather can bring blue-green algae blooms to the lake. Access requires navigating about 33 miles of paved and gravel forest roads from Burns, Oregon via County Road 127/Forest Road 47, Forest Road 37, and Forest Road 3745. The campground was affected by the 2024 Falls Fire and experienced extended closures during recovery operations.
