About
Yellowjacket Campground is located on the quiet shores of Yellowjacket Lake in Malheur National Forest, offering a beautiful and remote setting for outdoor recreation. This off-the-beaten-path location provides excellent birding and wildlife viewing opportunities, with eagles, osprey, and pronghorn antelope commonly seen in the area. The lake features a small sand beach and an easily accessible shoreline, making it ideal for fishing and non-motorized boating. The campground includes a covered group picnic area and basic amenities including vault toilets. During the camping season, a hand pump provides drinking water, though water is typically shut off from early to mid-October until mid to late May or early June depending on temperatures. The campground operates on a $10 per night fee for single sites, with an additional $5 fee for extra vehicles. Interagency Senior and Access passes provide a 50% discount on campsite fees. Visitors should be aware that the campground was affected by the Falls Fire in 2024, which led to area closures. The remote location requires travel on forest roads, and visitors should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions and practice pack-it-in, pack-it-out principles as trash services may be limited.
