About

South Muddy Campground sits on the western shore of Boysen Reservoir within Wyoming's largest state park. This small, rustic camping area is part of Loop 1, a collection of dispersed campgrounds accessible via West Shoreline Drive, a gravel road that winds along the reservoir's edge. The campground offers limited facilities but provides convenient access to the 20-mile-long Boysen Reservoir, popular for fishing, boating, and water sports. Boysen State Park encompasses over 15,000 acres of land surrounding the reservoir created by Boysen Dam, completed in 1951. The park is located on the Wind River within the Wind River Indian Reservation, near the town of Shoshoni. With 76 miles of shoreline, the reservoir provides ample opportunities for water-based recreation and is well known among anglers for its diverse fishery. The west shore campgrounds, including South Muddy, offer a more remote camping experience compared to the developed campgrounds on the northeast shore. While facilities are basic, campers enjoy quieter surroundings and scenic reservoir views. The area's semi-arid climate brings hot summers and cold winters, with temperatures historically ranging from -39°F to 108°F.
