About

South Muddy Campground is located on the west side of Boysen Reservoir within Boysen State Park, Wyoming's largest state park. It is part of West Shoreline Loop 1, which encompasses several small camping areas including Fremont Bay, Libby Point, and Sandy Hills Loop, with approximately 20 total campsites distributed among them. The campground provides direct lake access, a boat launching area, a reservable group shelter, picnic shelters, and level camping spots with some shade trees. A sandy beach nearby offers swimming opportunities. As a primitive camping area, South Muddy has no hookups (no electric, water, or sewer connections at sites). Vault toilets serve the area, and a dump station is available at the park headquarters. Boysen Reservoir is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and water recreation in central Wyoming near Shoshoni. The park sits at the northern edge of the Wind River Canyon with dramatic scenery. Campers should be prepared for exposed conditions and bring their own drinking water if the park's water systems are seasonal.

Directions

From Shoshoni, Wyoming, head north on US-20 toward Thermopolis. After crossing the Wind River, turn left toward the west shoreline areas. South Muddy Campground is located on West Shoreline Loop 1 on the western side of Boysen Reservoir.
