About

Freier Beach is located within Boysen State Park, a public recreation area surrounding the 19,000-acre Boysen Reservoir in central Wyoming. The reservoir, formed by Boysen Dam on the Wind River, provides extensive water-based recreation including boating, fishing for walleye and trout, and swimming at sandy beach areas. The park sits at the transition zone between the Wind River Basin and the Owl Creek Mountains, creating a dramatic high-desert landscape. Camping areas around the reservoir offer direct access to the water, with boat ramps nearby. The area is known for warm summers ideal for water activities and opportunities to view wildlife including pronghorn, mule deer, and various waterfowl. Boysen State Park operates a reservation system for camping during peak season (May 15 through September 15), with sites available first-come-first-served outside that window. The park is open year-round, weather permitting, though winter access may be limited by snow conditions.
