About

Freier Beach campground is located at Boysen State Park, which surrounds the 19,560-acre Boysen Reservoir on the Wind River in central Wyoming. The park became a state park in 1956 and offers over 76 miles of shoreline along the reservoir created by Boysen Dam, completed in 1951. The campground provides direct access to the reservoir for boating, fishing, and water recreation. Boysen Reservoir is known for fishing opportunities including walleye, crappie, and perch. The park features a swim beach and multiple boat ramps for water access. The surrounding landscape is typical high desert terrain with sagebrush, low mesas, and short cliffs at the foot of the Wind River Mountains. Wildlife in the area includes deer, antelope, waterfowl, upland game birds, and bighorn sheep. The park is located on the edge of the Wind River Indian Reservation near Shoshoni, Wyoming. The Wind River flows north through Wind River Canyon, which was first traversed by the Ashley Fur Party in 1825. The original dam at this location was built by Asmus Boysen in 1908, with remnants still visible near the Lower Wind River Campground.
