Sandy Hills Campground

Open — Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited services in winter, with most water systems closed from mid-September through mid-April.

About

Sandy Hills Campground is located in Loop 1 on the west side of Boysen Reservoir at Boysen State Park in central Wyoming. Part of a collection of small camping areas including South Muddy, Fremont Bay, and Libby Point, Sandy Hills offers a more intimate camping experience compared to the larger campgrounds at Boysen. The campground sits along the shoreline of the 20-mile long Boysen Reservoir, providing direct access to the lake's 76 miles of shoreline. The area features sandy beach access, picnic shelters, and scattered shade trees in an otherwise high desert landscape. A boat launch is available nearby for fishing and water recreation. The reservoir is known for excellent fishing for walleye and trout, as well as boating, swimming, and water skiing during warmer months. The park sits within Wind River Indian Reservation lands, where the northward-flowing Wind River has been dammed to create the reservoir. Boysen State Park is Wyoming's largest state park, encompassing over 15,000 acres of land around the reservoir. The area offers wildlife viewing opportunities including bighorn sheep, deer, coyotes, Canadian geese, mallard ducks, and sandhill cranes. Winter activities include ice fishing when conditions permit. The remote west side location of Sandy Hills provides a quieter experience with fewer services but stunning high desert scenery.
