About

Cottonwood Bay Group Site sits on the western shore of Boysen Reservoir in Fremont County, Wyoming. Part of Loop 2 at Boysen State Park, this group camping area provides direct access to the lake via a sandy beach and nearby boat ramp. The setting includes scattered shade trees, a small group shelter, and picnic shelters for gatherings. Boysen Reservoir is a 19,000-acre impoundment on the Wind River, offering excellent fishing for walleye, perch, and trout. The waters are typically ice-free from March through December, making it a popular warm-season destination. The park surrounds the Wind River Canyon, where the Wind River cuts through the Owl Creek Mountains. Camping at Cottonwood Bay is primitive. Pit toilets and potable water are available, but there are no hookups or showers. The park has a dump station elsewhere on the grounds. Wyoming State Parks requires reservations for all campsites, made through the state reservation system or by calling the Call Center.

Directions

From Shoshoni, Wyoming, take US-20 west toward Thermopolis. The park entrance is approximately 15 miles north of Shoshoni. Cottonwood Bay is located on the west side of the reservoir on Loop 2.
