About

Sand Mesa Campground occupies a scenic spot on the west shore of Boysen Reservoir within Boysen State Park. Part of West Shoreline Loop 2, this small primitive campground provides convenient reservoir access for boating and fishing. The area is known for its walleye, rainbow trout, perch, crappie, and sauger fishing. A boat launch nearby makes launching easy for anglers. The campground offers basic amenities typical of Wyoming State Parks primitive sites: fire rings, picnic tables, and pit toilets. There are no hookups or showers. Potable water availability varies seasonally. The landscape features sparse shade trees and interesting geological formations characteristic of the Wind River Basin. Boysen State Park encompasses over 35,000 acres surrounding the 19,000-acre reservoir created by Boysen Dam on the Wind River. The park straddles the edge of the Wind River Indian Reservation, with the town of Shoshoni serving as the nearest supply point. The dump station at park headquarters operates seasonally from April through October.
