About
South Marcum Campground occupies a scenic stretch of shoreline on Rend Lake in Franklin County, Illinois. The campground is divided into several loops: Owl's Roost, Beaver Lodge, Buck Ridge, Covey Point, and Whispering Pines, each with distinct character. Sites range from walk-in tent spots to large electric and water hookup pads capable of accommodating rigs up to 89 feet. Every site has a picnic table and fire ring, and many offer direct lake views. Rend Lake is one of the largest lakes in Illinois at over 20,000 acres, making it a prime destination for bass, crappie, and catfish anglers. The campground has a boat ramp and is close to multiple swimming beaches, including the pet-friendly North Marcum Beach. Over 20 miles of paved bike trail wind through the surrounding woodlands and along the lakeshore. The campground is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and offers modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, and potable water. A playground in the Whispering Pines loop makes it suitable for families. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov, and the campground typically operates from late March through mid-November.
