About
South Fork Salmon River Campground is a peaceful 11-site campground managed by the Cascade Ranger District in the Boise National Forest. The sites are nestled under a canopy of old-growth ponderosa pine, providing partial shade throughout the day. Chipmunk Creek flows alongside the campground, adding to the backcountry atmosphere. The campground provides vault toilets and potable water. Sites are available first-come, first-served at $15 per night; fee envelopes and a collection box are provided near the entrance. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash. Warm Lake lies a short distance away, offering fishing for kokanee and several trout species including rainbow, brook, lake, and bull trout. The South Fork Salmon River is renowned for salmon, steelhead, whitefish, bull trout, and cutthroat trout. In September, the nearby fish viewing site features a bridge-walkway where visitors can observe chinook salmon that have traveled 700 miles from the Pacific Ocean to spawn. The surrounding area provides excellent hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, OHV trails, and hunting. Wildlife in the area includes bears, deer, elk, fox, grouse, eagles, and osprey.
