About

South Fork Rec occupies a prime position on the southern shore of Lake Isabella, one of the largest lakes in Southern California. The campground operates on two distinct zones: developed sites above the high-water mark with picnic tables, stoves, flush toilets, and potable water, and a unique shoreline zone below the high-water mark where visitors can drive directly to the water's edge for beachfront camping. The facility includes a public boat launch and courtesy dock, making it a popular base for boaters and anglers. A visitor information station provides local recreation information. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Payment can be made on-site or via the Recreation.gov Scan and Pay mobile feature. Pets are welcome on a 6-foot leash. Campfire permits are required for fires, barbecues, and camp stoves, and fire restrictions may apply depending on current conditions. Glass containers are prohibited in the Lake Isabella area.

Directions

From Bakersfield, take Highway 178 east approximately 45 miles to the southern shore of Lake Isabella. The campground is located off Highway 178 on the south side of the lake.
