About
Auxiliary Dam Campground occupies prime real estate on the southern end of Lake Isabella, the largest freshwater lake in Southern California. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-serve basis, managed by Rocky Mountain Recreation under a Forest Service concessionaire permit. At 2,600 feet elevation, the area enjoys mild winters and hot summers, making it a popular destination for fishing, boating, and water sports. The campground offers two distinct camping experiences. Above the high-water mark, developed sites include flush toilets, drinking water from a hand pump, trash service, and some sites with stoves and picnic tables. Below the high-water mark, visitors can drive their vehicles directly to the shoreline for waterfront camping, with portable toilets and trash receptacles provided during the summer season. A dump station is available at the adjacent Old Isabella Recreation Area. Payment can be made on-site using the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature via QR code. Campers should download the app before arrival due to limited cellular service in the area. Interagency Senior and Access passes provide a 50% discount on single site fees.
