About

Camp 9 Recreation Area rests on the east shore of Lake Isabella, a high desert reservoir at 2,600 feet elevation in the Sequoia National Forest. The campground is particularly popular with RV campers and boaters due to its ample parking for trailers and motorized watercraft. In spring and early summer, breezes typically pick up in the afternoons while mornings remain quiet and calm. The facility offers 109 single campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis at $34 per night, plus 11 group sites that can be reserved through Recreation.gov. A courtesy boat launch dock is located in the day use area when water levels accommodate launching. The campground provides potable water via hand pumps, vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and trash service. A dump station is available for $20 per use. Shade is limited throughout the campground, so visitors should bring sun protection. The location provides easy access to fishing, boating, waterskiing, and swimming on Lake Isabella. Glass containers are prohibited around the lake and Kern River area. ATVs and OHVs are not permitted except at the nearby motocross track. Campfires require a valid California Campfire Permit and are only allowed in designated campsites, subject to current fire restrictions. The campground is operated by ExplorUS under a Forest Service concessionaire permit.

Directions

From Bakersfield, take Highway 178 east through the Kern River Canyon approximately 40 miles to Lake Isabella. Take Highway 155 north past Wofford Heights to Kernville. At the stop sign in Kernville, turn right onto Sierra Way and go 4 miles south. Camp 9 will be on the right side of the road.
