Camp 9

About

Camp 9 occupies a prime location on the north shore of Lake Isabella, a major high desert reservoir in Sequoia National Forest. At 2,600 feet elevation, the campground serves as a base for boating, fishing, kayaking, and swimming on the lake, as well as rafting and angling on the nearby Upper Kern River. A seasonal boat ramp with floating dock provides direct lake access from the day use area. The campground features over 100 single campsites spread across multiple loops, with some sites directly on the lakeshore and others set back with lake views. Cottonwood trees provide limited shade. The facility is especially popular with RV campers thanks to generous parking that accommodates both trailers and towed watercraft. Eleven group sites accommodate up to 35 occupants each and include paved parking, picnic tables, campfire rings, and portable toilets. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water at select locations, an RV dump station, and a fish cleaning station. Spring and early summer bring afternoon breezes while mornings remain calm. Fall and winter offer the most pleasant conditions with daytime temperatures in the 60s and nighttime lows in the 40s.

Directions

From the south, take Highway 99 to Bakersfield. Take the Highway 178 exit and travel east toward the Kern River Canyon. Follow Highway 178 for approximately 40 miles to the town of Lake Isabella. From Lake Isabella, take Highway 155. Continue past the town of Wofford Heights to Kernville. At the stop sign in Kernville, turn right onto Sierra Way. Proceed 4 miles. Camp 9 is on the right side of the road.
