About
Boulder Gulch Campground is located at 2,650 feet elevation in the foothills of the high desert, positioned just off Highway 155 on the west side of Lake Isabella within the Giant Sequoia National Monument. The campground features approximately 58 paved sites designed to accommodate RVs up to 45 feet in length, making it a popular destination for families and fishing enthusiasts. Amenities include flush toilets, potable water from hand pumps, picnic tables, fire rings, and a dedicated fish cleaning station. The campground sits within the Sequoia National Forest at the southern end of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, where elevations across the forest range from 1,000 to 12,000 feet. Nearby Lake Isabella offers excellent opportunities for trout and bass fishing, along with boating, windsurfing, swimming, and water skiing. The surrounding area includes hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking trails that showcase the diverse landscapes of the Giant Sequoia National Monument. Boulder Gulch operates under a concessionaire permit and accepts reservations through Recreation.gov, with reservations required on holiday weekends. The campground is heavily used during the operating season. Campfire permits are required for all campfires, barbecues, and camp stoves. An additional vehicle fee of $8 per night applies to extra vehicles.
Directions
From Highway 99 in Bakersfield, take Highway 178 east to the town of Lake Isabella. Take Highway 155 around the west side of Lake Isabella for 4 miles to the campground entrance.
