Jones Gap State Park Campground provides a genuine backcountry camping experience in northern Greenville County's Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. The park's 18 primitive campsites are scattered along trails throughout the 3,964-acre wilderness, requiring hikers to pack in all gear and supplies. No drive-up camping is available. The campsites are located at varying distances from the ranger station, with the shortest hike being just 0.05 miles and longer distances requiring several hours of hiking. Fourteen sites feature fire pits, while four are designated no-fire sites. All camping takes place in designated areas only, and permits are required for all overnight stays. Campers must check in at the ranger station before proceeding to their site, and should arrive at least two hours before dark to safely reach their campsite. The campground sits along the Middle Saluda River, which flows through the park's deep mountain cove. The river provides excellent wild trout fishing, including the rare native brook trout. The area supports thousands of plant and animal species and offers unparalleled mountain tranquility. Trails close one hour before sunset daily, and phone service is unavailable within the park.
